March Madness

March Madness is one way to qualify life in our house for the next few weeks. There are so many things to do before this baby arrives. And after nearly two years, selecting a name is still one of them.

Here is a grid you can use to select the name of your choice (note I said "your choice", not our choice)! These are all names that we've discussed in the last few months. I wouldn't say we're down to the Final Four yet...maybe the Elite Eight? Definitely the Sweet Sixteen. And I know the basketball tournament starts with 64 teams, but really, 32 names should be enough to select from, right?

Click here to get a copy of the grid. Print it out (just click the print button on your browser), and select your preferred choice from the pairs, until you have the final two, then narrow it down to one. Have fun. Please send us your final name in the comments.

EJ's grid came out to Ava vs. Claire, with Ava winning it all...

Mine came out to Olivia vs Lily. Olivia wins here!

Narrowed it to two - Mary & Elizabeth. Mary is the winner (with perhaps Elizabeth as a middle name).

I should have explained that we plan to keep the baby's Chinese name as the middle name, and of course, we don't know what that is yet! Most Chinese names are two syllable words, if that helps.

And...wasn't there a Mary Elizabeth Hess at my church?

Lauren Wins it all.It don't get any better than that........

Emma said she is now changing hers to Kate. Guess she's as undecided as us!

another thing...in the ncaa pool, they dont just throw the names in there...they seed them. each bracket of 8 names should have had your #1 choice as the top line. you had too many clunker vs. clunkers and good names vs good names in the first round!!!!

sheesh.

banana had abigail winning over amanda and it's funny because i told her afterwards that both names were considered for her.

i had lily beating sydney in a tight one....but i'm not sure why. i just think lily goes.

my other half didnt play the full game since she was cooking dinner, but she heard them all and also selected lily.

we have a lily in our circle of friends. cool name. plus, i seriously think lily ________ will be much more palatable than claire ________ or madeline __________.

dont you also have to be careful that her name isnt just the name of the orphanage?

kate would be my sentimental favorite even though grandma s hated it with a passion.

Hey - I can see all the names on my PC! Actually, the names are somewhat seeded, as I sprinkled my four favorites in the four sections of the grid. I just didn't put my #1 vs. #8. That was too much thinking to do.

I do like Abigail too...

As for the name, the baby's last name is usually the name of the orphanage director, the city, or some chosen name that the orphanage uses. We're more interested in keeping her first/middle name as given by the orphanage workers as her middle name. I say first/middle, as each one will only be 2-3 letters, and they are almost always said together. Like Guo Hui would become Guohui, etc.

Love Katie...not as fond of Katie. I like the rule about no shortened alternatives, although that would be a problem for Abigail too.

Oops - meant to say "love Kate" not "Katie"

My grid came out to Zoe vs. Mia! And I like Zoe best!

Grandpap H has reduced it to Sydney and Chloe. Me thinks Sydney the better choice -- it comes out as Sydney Wun Tu and an easy nickname -- Syd.

And, all you sports fans out there -- please tell me what the *&+#@ seeded means. No, tell me why it is used in the sense that it is in sports.

My final two names are Bailey and Lily.
Grandma H.

Hmmm...I have no idea why the term "seeded" is used. That's a good question. "Ranked" could be used just as easily, couldn't it? Am I missing something, bro?
