The Skybus Fiasco, take 2

Remember this rant from two weeks ago? You know, the one where the new discount airline cancelled one leg of my return flight, but not the other, and then we had to find new tickets home for our upcoming vacation? THANK GOODNESS that our replacement tickets for the way home gets us all the way home, as Skybus went out of business yesterday.

However, the new panic was that we had a ticket home on another airline, but not a ticket to our destination! And of course, we're only three weeks from departure, we're traveling (as is most of NH) for school vacation week, and everyone else with a Skybus ticket now needed a replacement.

So, let's recap. Originally, the flights were about $2000 on USAir. We chose to go with Skybus, who could do the trip for $1100. Now, we've paid $1600 for replacement tix AND we might be out all $1100 for the Skybus tix. We were supposed to be refunded for the one leg of the return trip within 30-60 days, but since they've declared bankruptcy, who knows? They are not processing refunds, the announcment on the now-defunct website says to apply for a refund with your credit card company. The refund center for mine is not open until tomorrow morning.

Now, here's my next question...why, 3-5 weeks before my vacation, can I now get tickets for $1600, when back in February they were $2000?

Ugh. I hate air travel.

i love flying. it's the driving to the airport, parking at the airport, getting there 2 hours early, checking in, waiting, walking, boarding, sitting on the plane for 30 minutes before takeoff, sitting on the plane for 30 minutes before getting off, getting off the plane, waiting for luggage.....

i traveled 10 times for business in a short period of time a few years ago and i can honestly say that if you doubled my current salary - i wouldnt take a job where i had to fly once a month. people wonder why we drive to your house! i tell them there is no doubt in my mind that i am at your house faster than if we left at the same time to go to the airport. no doubt. not even close. it once took me 10 hours to get home from st louis to philly from the time i arrived at the airport. thats insane!!!!!
