Back from vacation!

We're finally back home from vacation and boy, it's COLD here after being in the south for a week! We came home to 45 degree weather and rain...yuck. It feels strange to have sweatshirts on after being in shorts and Tshirts all week.

We flew to Jacksonville on Friday evening...and yes, Sophie controlled herself on the plane. She sat in her seat for the first hour and then hopped onto my lap for the rest of the flight. I kept her very busy with books and snacks. We didn't land until 9PM, well after her bedtime, but she held it together until we got the rental van and got on the road to Uncle E's house. She was out before we got off airport property.

Uncle E and Aunt M have a nice house on the marsh in southern GA.

Here's their backyard:

Sophie with Aunt M:

Poor Elvis (the dog). He's a bit feisty and had to be in his cage while Sophie was around. But EJ had fun playing with him when we was out.

On Saturday, we went to the Woodbine, GA Crawfish Festival! EJ had her face painted up. We didn't have any crawfish, as we were on our way to lunch at the country club where my niece D's fiance works as a cook!

Here's D and the girls. K and EJ will be flying down again in a few weeks for the wedding. EJ can't wait...she LOVES weddings!

On Sunday, we drove from Uncle E's to southern Alabama, where K's parents live. It was a LONG drive (400 miles or so). Let's just say that Sophie wasn't happy about being in the car. She did great for the first two hours, but then she woke up and it was tough from there. She wailed for about the last hour.

On Monday, we went to the Gulf Shores Zoo and Sophie enjoyed seeing all the animals.

On Tuesday, Grandma took EJ and I to see High School Musical on ice. It was very good! I tried not to embarass EJ too much by singing along.

Grandma and Grandpap's community has a very nice pool that we spent a lot of time in. EJ loves to swim and even spent some time doing laps!

Sophie was content to sit or climb up and down on the steps of the pool. She had a good time splashing around.

On Thursday, we went to Johnson Beach in Orange Beach, AL. This is my kind of beach...very few people! Sophie had a great time digging in the sand, picking up shells, and even playing in the waves (and there were a lot of them on this windy day!).

EJ dug a big trench out to the water that occasionally ran full of water!

Remember this guy? Fred Wang is a teacher from China assigned to a local school in tiny Elberta, AL for two years to teach Chinese language and culture. Well, K's parents introduced themselves to Mr. Wang a few weeks ago and invited him to dinner while we were there. It was an interesting evening of discussion as we asked him questions about China and he asked us questions about the U.S., including the ongoing presidential election!

Thanks, Grandma and Grandpap, for a fun week!
