May 25th - Summer Palace and Beijing Zoo

One year ago today, we were able to do some extra touring in Beijing since we arrived a day early with some other families. We went to the Summer Palace, the summer home of the emperors, and the Beijing Zoo.

Here was the view out our hotel window in Beijing:

Since we were up early, we had a little extra time after breakfast before the touring began. I walked K and EJ over to the market so they would know where it was. Around the corner from that market was this produce stand. There were some items there we'd never even seen before!

We arrived at the Summer Palace and Chen Chen taught us to say "Bu Yao" to the vendors who wanted us to buy things. Here's Chen Chen showing us a map of the Summer Palace:

Some other shots from the Summer Palace:

Then, we made a quick stop at the Beijing Zoo, which is HUGE. We spent most of the time at the panda exhibit. Here's a group of Chinese schoolchildren enjoying their day at the zoo.
